I am commenting on the proposed amendments to the Rebuilding Ontario Place Act, 2023:
I am unequivocally opposed to Schedule 8 of the Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act, 2025 which tries to exempt every project tied to the Ontario Place redevelopment from Part II of the Environmental Bill of Rights, 1993. With this, any public participation will be eliminated, and even worse, no communication or information will be provided to the public about any environmentally significant activities with regards to Ontario Place redevelopment.
Please try and respect the Environmental Bill of Rights Part II and provide transparency and accountability to the Ontario public about any developments on public lands. You as the Ontario government have been tasked with protecting our and your environment from harm especially when private sector initiatives and out-of-province companies do not feel any obligation to do so while profiting off our lands.
Remove Schedule 8 from the amendment as it is neither a relevant nor reasonable part of the proposal.
Obfuscation should never be a tactic for the provincial government to cram through private sector activities and decisions that harm the public environment. Invite public discussion and opinions if you are confident in your recommendations.
