Bill 5 reflects Ontario’s unrestrained and unabashed endorsement of private interests, namely mining proponents and projects, at the cost of any legal requirement to consider the interests of the public, communities, nature and health. If passed, Bill 5 will undoubtedly erode public confidence in transparent and accountable government decision-making and cause irreparable harm to environmental and human rights.
This is a license to cash-grab at the expense of our communities. It's unabashed greed. Ontario Place is just one example of an opportunity to establish a meaningful community asset, accessible to all, that was thrown away in favour of benefiting a private company... At citizens expense. It's gross, it's shameful, and frankly it wouldn't be that difficult to do better for the people of Ontario who are footing the bill.
