I’m writing to strongly oppose the plan to take away the public’s right to know about or give input on permits for the Ontario Place project, both on the site and nearby. This change would break the rules in Ontario’s Environmental Bill of Rights.
That Bill of Rights was created to protect the environment now and for future generations. Many people across Ontario have spoken up with serious concerns about protecting the fragile waterfront at Ontario Place. They have shared thoughtful feedback and offered fair, realistic ideas to improve the government's plan. Ignoring their voices takes away people’s rights and also means the government is missing out on important community knowledge.
This plan does not help the public. It puts the future of this important waterfront site at risk and seems to only help private companies from outside Canada. Right now, when Ontario and the rest of the world are facing big problems with the climate and the environment, we should not be weakening environmental rules or leaving people out of the conversation.
