As an Ontarian, I strongly disagree with this proposal and would like to see it denied. It ignores and threatens the right of Indigenous people, implying that the provincial government can override its treaty obligations. With the proposed fast-tracking of projects through bypassing environmental assessment, which includes indigenous consultation, there is a lack of consideration for and undermining of First Nation's rights to land. The provision proposes to strip away the Endangered Species Act, and give itself the power to determine what species are on this list, proving a lack of accountability and transparency. There is an obvious lack of detail in the legislation, which could lead to provincial overreach and allow for side-stepping of important environmental requirements. I vehemently oppose this bill.
