I am writing to strongly oppose the proposed exemptions from the Environmental Bill of Rights that would strip Ontarians of their right to be notified about or comment on permits related to Ontario Place—whether on-site or off-site—that support the current development project.
The Environmental Bill of Rights was created to safeguard Ontario’s natural environment for future generations. In the case of Ontario Place, thousands of residents have voiced serious concerns about the impact on this sensitive waterfront ecosystem. They have offered thoughtful, well-researched feedback and practical alternatives to the government’s current plan. Ignoring this public input not only undermines democratic rights but also dismisses valuable local knowledge.
This proposal is not in the public interest. It jeopardizes the long-term integrity of a vital public waterfront and appears to prioritize private, foreign interests over environmental protection. At a time of global climate and biodiversity crises, weakening public oversight and environmental safeguards sets a dangerous precedent.
