I'm writing to oppose the proposed exemptions to the Environmental Bill of Rights that would strip Ontarians of their right to be notified about—and comment on—permits related to the Ontario Place redevelopment, whether on-site or off.
The EBR is meant to safeguard the environment for future generations. At Ontario Place, that means protecting a vulnerable waterfront that thousands of people across the province have already spoken up for. They've offered thoughtful, informed feedback and proposed reasonable alternatives. Ignoring that—not only their right to be heard, but also the knowledge they bring—is shortsighted.
This proposal isn’t in the public interest. It weakens environmental oversight, ignores public input, and clears the way for private, foreign interests to reshape a public site. At a time when we’re facing overlapping climate and biodiversity crises, this is one more step in the wrong direction.
