I oppose the amendment to the Rebuilding Ontario Place Act (part of Bill 5).
The destruction of the west Island at Ontario Place in order to make way for the Therme spa was egregious enough. Now, further redevelopment of Ontario Place will no longer be subject to public scrutiny, and proposals will no longer have to be posted on the Environmental Registry.
It was through the ERO posting that I and thousands of other alarmed citizens learned of the plan to dump raw sewage in the West Channel, and were able to use public pressure to have this plan withdrawn. With the proposed amendment, Ontarians would have no way of knowing about other activities at Ontario Place.
This is unacceptable in our democracy based on principles of transparency and accountability.
