I am writing to strongly object to the proposed exemptions from the Environmental Bill of Rights which would remove the right of Ontarians to be advised of, or to comment on, any required permits at Ontario Place, on or offsite.
For me the exemptions violate the Environmental Bill of Rights, which was created to ensure that Ontario's environment is protected for future generations. In respect to Ontario Place, the concerns relate to the protection of its fragile waterfront ecosystem. Citizens have a right to know of any changes which could negatively affect their environment.
I believe the exemptions are not in the public interest and serve only to benefit the private interests of foreign companies. It would be a compromise in environmental protection, and deny citizen's rights to be informed, at a time when Ontario along with the rest of the planet is facing a climate and biodiversity crisis.
