I am a lifelong resident of Dresden. I saw how much fly ash was trucked to the location, because they went past my house where I lived. In my estimation, there was approximately 40 tons a week, that was trucked into the 29831 Irish School Road property, over the years, compared to the current proposal of 1000 tons a day. Therefore, 40 years ago, there were not the same licenses as there are today, to operate a landfill. There are 10 houses that are within 300 metres of this proposed site, and to me these people are going to be too close to the site. If you have driven the 401 highway, west of London, you have driven past a large landfill that has had a strong odour. Ownership has changed hands, and the City of Toronto now owns it, but the odour never changed. How do we know that the owners of this proposed landfill can ensure that it will not smell like the one that Toronto currently owns and operates, just outside of London. There are municipal ditches that run through this property, that drain into the Sydenham River, and there is always a chance of overflow into the river, that flows to Wallaceburg, to the St. Clair River, and then to Detroit. There is potential to do harm. There need to be rules on how the cells are constructed, to ensure that there is no overflow into the ditches. For the above reasons, it is obvious that this is not the place for a garbage disposal site, that creates far more traffic on the roads we have and more risk to everyone. Therefore I disapprove of this to be a landfill site.
