This is a disgusting act of a power grab and environmental irresponsibility. Any changes to PUBLIC land, in terms of development, rezoning, environmental changes, REQUIRE the involvement of the PUBLIC. By removing the public's involvement this Bill outright is saying that they have no say, meaning that the Provincial Government, voted for by THE PEOPLE (aka the PUBLIC), is wishing to become an AUTHORITARIAN state. By depriving Ontarians the right to comment on any changes, this Bill goes directly AGAINST the Environmental Bill of Rights, and that should be reason enough to NOT exempt it.
Additionally, considering the Provincial Government is in the game to save Ontarians money, the influx of requests under the Freedom of Information Act, so that the public can find out about what the Government is planning, including potential Lawsuits for the release of that information, will end up costing more in the long run.
Oh yes, there is also the Public Service of Ontario Act, which last time I checked, the Government, made up of PUBLIC servants, is also bound by. Bill 5 shows that the current Government cares not about their violation of this Act.
Acts and Bills that Bill 5 is directly in conflict with:
Environmental Bill of Rights
Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act
Public Service of Ontario Act
