This Bill is extremely troubling. The exemptions that would be allowed to certain individuals seem far reaching and contrary to a modern democracy. While I understand a concern with over regulation, inappropriate regulations should be removed in a more considered manner and not according to Cabinet preferences in the moment.

In addition, of course, the legislation is clearly intended to reduce further the very minor protections for our environment and endangered species. So much of northern Ontario relies on natural beauty for tourism and hunting and this approach seems geared to undermining the economy and way of life of those outside of urban centres. I am truly surprised that the government is not more in line with the voters who supported it in the last election. The Conservatives have managed to stay in power for a long time - I think they are more likely to stay in power if they listen to widespread concerns about this bill and withdraw or seriously amend it.
