I am writing to strongly oppose the Bill 5 and plead for it to be withdrawn. This bill will have lasting, damaging impacts on future generations, people's rights and our natural environment and our economy will suffer for it. Environmental disasters like wild fires and floods along with increasing health problems due to climate change are already costing Ontario billions of dollars and this bill will only exacerbate these financial and health burdens. This bill will serve to expedite species extinction by gutting the protection of species-at-risk and their habitat through the proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act. It will remove the rights of Indigenous communities and Ontarians to be advised of and comment on certain projects, will disregard science-backed information and give unprecedented powers to unqualified politicians, developers and extractive companies. This bill does not serve the people of Ontario.
