It seems to me the role of government in our society is to regulate the excesses of Corporations and wealthy speculators making obscene profits on the backs of individuals; be they employees or simply citizens in our society. When a government starts talking "deregulation" and/or "privatization" it invariably means it wants to abdicate it's role as protectors of the people in favour of lining the pockets of those wanting a free rein to make even more profit - whether that be through developing resources like the Greenbelt which is being protected for the common good or repealing labour group rights which protect the common worker to benefit corporations. This is hardly living up to the promise by Mr. Ford to not touch the Greenbelt and provide a government "for the people" unless those "people" are fellow wealthy friends and heads of corporations to whom unstated promises have been given.
