I am firmly against this proposition due to the negative effects it will have on the environment of Wasaga Beach. The proposal brings up obtaining land in beach areas 1 and 2. Wasaga Beach is an incredibly rare and fragile ecosystem. Thanks to the environmental efforts of the provincial parks department, Beach Area 1 has been used as a crucial breeding spot for Piping plovers for years. Any development of the areas they use runs the risk of them abandoning the area.
Removing the protective areas used to house our endangered species and to protect our dune systems for tourism is an idea that does not benefit the Wasaga locals. We should be focusing our tourism on how beautiful and rare our beach is, rather than modernizing it and losing the small historic beach town charm.
The best way to do this is to leave it in the capable hands of the Ontario Parks Department.
