Question specific comments:
Note: we have placed a reservation for a Tesla Model 3 and intend to proceed to purchase once it becomes available for delivery. This decision was influenced by the Ontario Government EV program! Selection of options will be influenced by the MTO EV program incentives available when we take delivery of our vehicle. We are also considering future purchase of integrated Tesla Powerwall and solar panels for our home.
1. - Scale incentives for battery size, and fully Electric Vehicles.
- Relax the cap for fully Electric vehicles
- Consider incentives for combined home power storage with solar capture technology along with existing home charging incentive.
- This cap for more expensive fully electric vehicles may change purchaser to consider less green vehicle because currently full EV technology is expensive, but as volumes increase, costs will go down for vehicles, infrastructure and downstream costs.
- I like the first 4 year free charging credit for off-peak charging, this has influenced my decision to move earlier rather than later to reserve a Tesla Model 3. Perhaps consider similar to Tesla supercharging plan, where now there will be yearly credit for certain KWH charging that rolls over year by year. Then offer after 4 year free charging incentive, a special rate for purchase of off peak home charging, or credit for On Route and other charging options.
2 Generous incentives should be made available to facilitate business owners and builders to incorporate charging infrastructure as a basic requirement for all buildings.
I admit I am not qualified to comment on remainder of question points but I have noticed that in Europe and the UK there are some electrical distribution companies proposing interesting programs tied into the regular electrical distribution network. I see an intriguing possibility of using EV car batteries as offline storage of excess renewable energy generation that could then be tapped into during peak demand times. This becomes feasible once a significant amount of EV battery capacity (Mega Watt Hours) is regularly connected to the grid using charging points.
3.I see EV's as logical next step in sustainable transportation and we as a country need to become leaders and developer/adopters of this evolution. If not we will become another Blackberry story rather than an iPhone/Smartphone developer/producer.
- To increase EV sales and models available for test drives I would encourage more public trade shows and joint showcase events where public can learn about the government incentives and how cost of ownership plus positive effects for the environment are detailed. Also setting enforcable target EV sales requirements, such as I understand in Quebec for retailers, may change public and retailer decision process eventually.
To the other points I am not appropriately engaged in this area to offer a strong opinion but suggest there are good programs being developed in Europe and the UK that we can learn from. Most of my education in this matter has come from forums online and via You Tube videos.
