Approving this MZO will be bad for everyone: those already in the neighbourhood, who don't consent to the amount of density in the revised proposal; those who will be living in the new development, who will absolutely be affected by activities at the CN shunting yard; and those visiting Hamilton, seeing yet another poorly designed housing complex that is downright dystopian in concept. The proposal also lacks greenspace and appropriate parking, and also creates a throughway in this block along Simcoe Street. The proposal is not in alignment with the neighbourhood's development plans either.
The neighbourhood doesn't want this. The City changed the proposed setup of the property and triggered CN to issue an objection to the development. Instead of revising the proposal, or beefing up the buildings to mitigate potential issues from the CN yard, the City has requested this MZO. This is lazy and a recipe for disaster.
Force Hamilton to go back to the original plan, and throw some extra dollars at it so that we don't have to choose between living beside a ghost town or beside a housing complex that no one in the area can afford to live in.
