As a resident of Ontario and someone who deeply values environmental preservation and responsible recreation, I strongly support the proposed amendments to the Devil’s Glen Provincial Park Management Plan (ERO 019-8238).
The reclassification of the park from “recreational” to “natural environment” is a meaningful step that better reflects the ecological significance of the area and aligns with the values of conservation and stewardship.
I’m also encouraged by the thoughtful inclusion of responsible recreational activities such as rock climbing. Recognizing climbing as a permitted use, while ensuring it is managed within designated areas, strikes a healthy balance between access and protection. It’s a model of how recreation can coexist with conservation when guided by clear policy and community engagement.
The proposed addition of 18 hectares to the park and the introduction of a nature reserve zone demonstrate a forward-thinking approach to land management. These changes reflect a commitment to expanding protected areas and addressing pressures from adjacent lands—both of which are crucial in today’s climate and ecological context.
Thank you for inviting public input. I appreciate Ontario Parks’ efforts to modernize and strengthen the management plan, and I fully support this amendment as a positive move toward sustainable stewardship of our provincial parks.
