I am excited about the proposal to formally allow climbing at Devils Glen Provincial Park. I love climbing as a sport, but what I love more is the community it fosters and the opportunities to get out and enjoy the natural beauty of Ontario (and other places I visit). Over the years I've spent hundreds of hours at Devils Glen, and it holds a special place in my heart. It's a place I go to see friends and familiar faces, to challenge myself in ways I never thought possible, and to enjoy the sense of calm only being in nature can provide.

As a community, climbers work amongst themselves to share information about things like bird nesting, or other wildlife that may be disturbed by our actions. The community self-polices and temporarily closes down routes to not cause unnecessary stress to any wildlife. It is not a perfect system, but as a whole it is clear that people understand we are visitors in these beautiful areas. I think formally allowing climbing with the oversight of Ontario parks will only make this easier.

As an individual I have a vested interest to keep these beautiful places open, so later down the line my kids will be able to enjoy the same experiences I have if they choose.
