Premier Ford is cutting back environmental protections to advance his development interests, which is a betrayal of the priorities of Ontarians. Despite his lack of scientific education, the Premier has appealed only to his own authority to disregard the opinions of professional biologists and conservationists. Perhaps residing on developed urban territory has caused the Premier to forget where most of the wealth owned by Canadians truly resides. For residents of Ontario who reside on the doorstep of these fragile ecosystems, the value of our properties, and in many cases our livelihoods are tied directly to the welfare of the wilderness that surrounds us. The Premier's metric is failing to evaluate the way my property value is directly tied to the health of the natural environment and the species that touch our shores. The Premier is over-valuing the artificial landscape of his developed properties, and forgetting that there is nothing in his possession that equals the value of the grey foxes or barn owls that grace our farm fields over the winter. I urge the Premier to recognize that what he takes away from the natural environment, he brazenly steals from the hands of Canadians, and I ask him to repeal Bill 50.
