Bill 60 is based on the mistaken belief that dedicating all road space to cars enhances mobility. In reality, widening roads or retaining unnecessary lanes often causes flow turbulence—more conflict points, extra signal phases, and longer light cycles that slow traffic overall.

Shifting some space to transit, cycling, and safer pedestrian crossings can actually smooth vehicle movement by simplifying intersections, reducing erratic lane changes, and shortening signal cycles. Far from being anti-car, such changes often deliver steadier travel times and less stop-and-go traffic, improving conditions for drivers and all other road users.

I urge the government to reconsider Bill 60 and let municipalities apply evidence-based street design to achieve better outcomes for everyone.
