There are many studies, one of which by the Fraser Institute last year on the barriers to housing supply in Ontario, that single out minimum lot sizes as being an impediment to housing supply. Given that removing regulations like minimum lot sizes, parking requirements, and reforming the building code doesn't cost the government much outside of implementation, it feels like a no-brainer. It allows more options in housing design, and encourages redevelopment in areas that need it. Personally I find it silly that we even regulate lot sizes to begin with.
