I am here to share my concerns on behalf of my family and members of my community (and all renters across Ontario) : Bill 60 is a reckless and irresponsible bill amid a worsening housing crisis.

Tenants are already at the mercy of their landlords -- not only has it become easier for them to hike up rent, but many have been emboldened in the last decade to engage in predatory practices against tenants and driving down the overall quality of homes.

Measures to hold landlords accountable are laughable. The LTB responds to landlord-initisted complaints and evictions much faster than tenant-initiated ones (324 days to 427 days in 2024, according to tribunal watch Ontario). Additionally, eviction filings nearly doubled in 2022 to over 1000 and steadily increased in 2023, 2024, and 2025, something that was a near immediate outcome to previous amendments to the Landlord Tenant Act passes since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Additionally, tenants who have some sort of stability will now have to navigate a new, cutthroat rental environment where rent is beyond their capacity to afford. This will especially impact seniors, families with young children, and all low-income individuals and their families.

Eliminating month-to-month agreements, requiring lease renewals, and rules making it easier & faster for landlords to evict tenants will skyrocket bad faith evictions, and cause tenants to be fearful to exercise even their most basic rights.

We need stronger protections, reduced rents, and stability for renters. I strongly opposes this bill and urge all MPPs across all parties to fulfill their responsibilities to their constituents to meaningfully address the housing crisis, not accelerate it.
