Dear Ms Russell,

I have been an avid cyclist all my life, including cycling downtown to work in Toronto for 26 years. I submit the following comments:

1)Put cyclist safety at the top of the planning list. Cycling the Martin Goodman Trail in Toronto, which is out of the way of traffic, has kept me safe all these years. Narrow bike paths next to parked cars or highways do not.

2)Stand-alone cycle pathways are safest, most enjoyable and will attract immediate use. Again, Martin Goodman Trail has sections like this. Further I have just returned from cycling in Belgium where this is quite common.

3)Better signage required to keep cyclists off busy roads, freeways. Nowadays we shouldn't cycle on every road; traffic is just too busy and dangerous. Again while recently cycling this time in France, signage and helpful honks from long haul truckers kept me off roads too dangerous (or illegal) for me to be on.

4)Update Cycling Laws to gain Respect from Cars. For example, allow the rolling stop for cyclists. Car drivers get very agitated when they feel cyclists break the laws, even if they are just doing what makes the most sense if they were in our place.

Thank you for this worthy endeavour to increase health and move people faster, some of the main reasons I continue to cycle.
