I am very excited and encouraged by the momentum I have seen in the last few years towards improved cycling infrastructure. I really caught the cycling bug after vacationing in The Netherlands around 10 years ago. I was blown away by the safety, efficiency, and magnitude of cycling in the country. Dedicated cycling lanes on rural country roads, dedicated cycling paths parallel to busy highways, streetscapes that encouraged you to be on your bike. Returning to Canada made me wonder why we can't do more of this, it just makes sense. Cycling has so many benefits, and I don't need to rename them in these comments. The proposed cycling network is a great start, although the main network seems to be missing something through the heart of southwestern Ontario, a dedicated route connecting London, Stratford, and Collingwood would make logical sense. I am pleased to see the G2G Rail Trail included as a key asset in this cycling network connecting Guelph to Goderich. This trail is a critical offroad trail in this network that will provide a safe cycling (and hiking) route for local residents and those seeking out cycle tourism. The G2G Rail Trail is still under development and requires support to complete some major bridge projects that currently force trail users to go onroad with detours to get around them. I look forward to seeing how the Ontario cycling network develops, lets keep the momentum moving forward!
