I am deeply concerned about the possibilities that this bill will allow privatization of public water and wastewater systems through agents of municipalities. I worked in the drinking water sector before, during and after the Walkerton crisis. The potential implications of ‘financializing’ water systems are profoundly dangerous, as well as being unfair to taxpayers and the users of these systems. The plan that Peel Region will retain the debt for 70+ years of developing world class water and wastewater systems will transferring the assets to a WCC is abhorrent.
Has this government not seen what corporations such as Thames Water have done to water systems and the environment in the UK?
This bill must be withdrawn.
