I would like to see the Ontario cycle plan include at least some sections of the old CP rail line that Lanark county has purchased. It would make an awesome cycle trail linking towns such as Carleton Place, Almonte, Pakenham, Arnprior. My children in these rural areas live a far distance by road from their school friends who are all bused to school, opening up the cycle trail would provide not only a safe non-motorized route for them to visit friends without the need for parents to drive them along the highway meaning very young children would have a place to practise their cycling skills before they have to have a semi rattling passed them at 80 km/h.

There are a great many cycle clubs around the area that would also use the trail not to mention the fact that the small towns along old rail bed route all have small coffee shops etc which would benefit from the extra trade cyclists would bring the towns.

Almonte/Mississippi Mills has bike week every summer to encourage more people to get out of their cars and onto their bikes, and has recently added some cycle lanes to in the town which would link up a further network of cylcling possibilities to the young people in the town.
