I feel the provincial plan lacks some local insight, and I wonder if considerations were made to direct cyclists to bike infrastructure networks that already exist. One of my main remarks is that Airport Parkway was selected as a cycle route in Ottawa. This road often sees drivers travel in excess of the speed limit (80-90km/h). This is not a safe scenario to place tourists in, nevermind local cyclists who may vary in age and experience.
Adjacent to the Airport Parkway is a multi-use pathway that can much more safely accommodate cyclists. I urge you to view the following google map link https://goo.gl/maps/e5t8968LiLp to see how it travels parallel to the road for much of the way. I request that the future investments made into this network include improvements to some of the poor connections that are offered between one piece of infrastructure to the next. In the referenced link, you can see that a cyclist would be forced to navigate through a major transit station and associated "big box store" parking lot. These connections are not helpful to promoting an enjoyable network that would attract tourists, and they are also inefficient for users. A more direct bypass should be provided in this instance, and in "missed connections" that are similar to this scenario across the province.
