The Elginburg quarry is a noisy industrial operation, frequently running on a 24 hour basis. Any private residence in proximity suffers from extreme noise and dust impacts and noxious fumes. I have not seen much protection for these elements other then a shorter then required berm, which has been provided along the west boundary. It is the owner’s responsibility to understand and comply with the EPA but has not achieved it. This is very serious given that the closest residence is closer then 120 meters from the main quarry entrance.
There are many reasons why local residents have voiced their concerns regarding the quarry's current operation and the expansion application but it does seem to go on deaf ears. Best anyone could ask for is for Cruickshank be regulated to operate their original Elginburg quarry as they are required to before being allowed to apply for a massive expansion. There also should be a rehabilitation program in place for the old quarry as it is no good for the stone they require as stated by Steve Cruickshank while attending community meeting.
I'm also concerned about the close proximity to a residence, which Cruickshank was able to have their current entrance, as I doubt historically there was any pubic debate. There are structures on the entrance/road way including utilities that are too close to the neighboring resident. Those items and the roadway it's self should be moved. To not finish constructing the barriers on all parameters as required to the proper height is not acceptable and in it’s self should tell MNRF of Cruickshank’s negligent behaviour
