I own and operate an outdoor recreation outfitting business in the Temagami region of north-eastern Ontario.
The proposal to reduce the distance restriction to 30 meters from 200 meters for the placement of bear baits in proximity to recreational trails is outrageous!
Thirty meters provides a wholly inadequate buffer to protect non-hunting users of recreational trails from bears attracted to bait stations and the hunters that seek to shoot those bears.
The MNRF must think of all users of recreational trails, not just hunters. If the 200 meter buffer is proved to be excessive, then I can support a reduction, but not to 30 meters - that simply isn't enough.
Stop placing the wants of hunters above the needs of the non-hunting community who recreate in northern Ontario.
