This new proposal to have boundaries where bait can be moved is going to Kill this industry , It's already hard enough getting bait , This will put me and other bait shop retailer out of business . Most of the minnow that are used in the north , East and west are harvested in southern Ontario (65%) Ask any anglers that fishes in north How hard it is to get minnow when you are out . Personally I have had Customers come down from Georgian bay to buy minnow here because the couldn't find bait there. We have had many years of sustained harvest of minnow PLEASE DO NOT RUIN IT Because that is what will happen if you implement these propose changes
The way it is now It's not perfect but is just fine , I believe that only bait shops should sell bait , we know our baits and selling by dozens insures that ONLY legal bait goes in minnow buckets
Having any person with fishing licence harvest their own bait is irresponsible , most anglers do not know what is legal bait that can be used
In the past You have taken out the sale of crayfish from bait harvester and bait shops But have given green light for any anglers to catch and use crayfish where they fish ...do they know what is an illegal crayfish? You did the same with Frogs
The new proposal to keep a receipt for bought bait with two weeks expiry is (in my opinion) stupid
A lot of my Customers buy many dozen of minnow and pound of leeches What are they suppose to do with baits that they don't use within two weeks?
