Good day, as a shoreline resident of Lake St George in Severn Township. I would welcome an update to the permit issuance protocol. The shallow spring fed lake typically becomes unusable in the late stages of summer due to the massive quantities of water pumped out by two local golf courses for the the purpose of irrigation. They don’t follow conservation practices and even during drought conditions draw their permitted amounts of almost 2 million litres per day. The lake has now fallen victim to a blue green algae outbreak due the low water levels and the corresponding high water temperatures linked in part to the draw. We as residents and tax payers have no say in how this resource is being managed. A ten year permit term is quite honestly too long to in our present climatic conditions, and residents should have some input on permit approval. Issuance should also be conditional based on water levels and drought conditions. We have also had a local construction company drawing hundreds of thousands of gallons from the lake the past few days without a permit with no consultation of local residents and no recourse from our local municipal representatives. We collectively are very disappointed in the level of mismanagement for this valuable resource and need support if we wish to preserve this treasure for the generations to come.
