To Whom it may concern,
I am strongly against the taking of any water for bottling purposes. It seems so ridiculous to think with all we now know that we would consider to support this type of industrial activity, and social irresponsibility.
Until we are able to value plastic in the same way we value metal and glass we will not be able to recover these materials. For bottling companies to succeed they should be working with governments to develop recovery plans and invest in recycling facilities across the country to actually be able to recycle plastic bottles back into plastic bottles. Downcycling should not be an option. If a monetary value is placed on this type of packaging perhaps we can increase plastic recovery rates beyond 9% and be able to afford the investment in this recycling/recovery industry.
Reusable water bottles should always be promoted and preferred by governments to single use water bottles. Water is a public resource and governments should be focused on ensuring all Canadians and Indigenous People have access to safe drinking water in their homes before selling it off to industries so they can make a profit selling it back to us.
Since the passing of Bill 197 I don't believe this provincial government has much regard for our environment and is willing to sell it off to the highest bidder with as little oversite as they can get away with.
Please prove me wrong.
