I don’t agree with the government proposal to exempt the MECP from environmental assessments. The “50 year old” act may need updating, but not for this. Environmental assessments are crucial for evaluating the environmental repercussions of human actions. Environmental assessments invoke the expertise of trained and knowledge ecologists and other professionals and should be done by third party. Ensuring EA’s are done holds governments accountable. There’s no way I’d believe the current government of the current MECP have the knowledge nor the empathy to critically and effectively evaluate the environmental impacts of their own work. Keep Ontario beautiful.
