As a new lawyer, I think that it is so important that the Environmental Assessment Act apply to all major public and private sector undertakings, including all mining projects and mine-related infrastructure. These assessments are crucial in ensuring that the potential risks to the environment, workers, local communities, and human health can be identified and prevented before the approval of the project. A lack of prior assessment will simply lead to more liability, environmental damage, and taxpayer dollars wasted on mitigation, clean up, and accountability efforts in the future.
