The proposed changes here are disturbing to say the least. The proposed ability to simply skip the guidelines set out in the Provincial Policy Statements is shocking and against the treaty rights that have been upheld within the Supreme Court. The duty to consult must be conducted. By skipping environmental and cultural heritage assessments, as this would allow, the further destruction of precious heritage resources would take place. It is through heritage and archaeological consultation that preserving this history must be done. To not do so would be to further dig deeper into the colonial attitudes that brings us to this place, where a cultural identity of an entire group of people can be seen as red tape by the government. This can not happen.
