Unlike the proposal 1.6 I disagree with the fact Hunters contribute to the spread of wild boar. I have hunted wild boar in the US extensively and their avoidance of humans in certain situations is because of their intelligence, not because they are hunted. I have seen pigs right beside peoples house because there is food there and they will continue to stay there until they are moved on either through culling or other removal measures. If there are 100 pigs in an area to maintain that minimum number 75 of those pigs have to be culled every year and that is just to try and maintain a population at 100. Trapping and culling of these animals has only limited success as they learn how to avoid traps and because you would have to have so many traps in an area to keep the numbers at a benchmark it becomes unmanageable and not effective. Also telling hunters they cannot shoot pigs reduces the information on actual numbers because there are people who will shoot and shut up. Hunters should be allowed to harvest any wild pig they see, report it the the MNRF and enjoy the harvest. Licenses other than an outdoor hunters card should not be required.
