Below are my main concerns regarding this pit and I strongly recommend you DO NOT approve the surrender of this portion of the Miller Boyington Pit #3.
This Miller pit is located on a Highly Vulnerable Aquifer within the Oak Ridges Moraine, and bringing in fill from the GTA provides a significant risk to our water which will also effect our property value and the future of Uxbridge.
From what I can see Miller has a history of non-compliance having been inspected and told to remove their contractor’s yard in 2010, 2015, and 2020, and has not only ignored this but increased the size of the contractor’s yard. Why has the MNRF not done anything about this? Seems to me they have already agreed to let this land go.
Pits are by definition temporary and are to be returned to their natural state – this application would turn the Miller Site into an industrial site indefinitely, and one sitting on top of a highly vulnerable aquifer in the Oak Ridges Moraine which UMALA believes is illegal under the ORMCP.
As part of this application, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is handing over the reins of responsibility to the Township of Uxbridge to manage – this should not be allowed nor does the Township have the personnel or experience to effectively oversee an operation like this.
I think the best thing would be for the MNRF to do their job and get Miller Paving to get the site brought into compliance and refuse this application.
