Due to the nature of this species the best approach would be twofold. First coordinate sightings of live animals and track/run information through ministry, local(municipal) governments and citizens (particularly hunters and farmers) in order to keep track of and estimate numbers. Secondly, allow free range to all outdoor card carriers for hunting of this species in order to prevent establishment of breeding population and eradicate the threat entirely. Hesitation on these decisions would be folly. We've had enough destruction from invasive plants, insects, fish and molluscs. Many of these species could have been controlled if the federal and provincial governments and the citizens worked together and communicated in a timely fashion. This is a failure on all individuals as a whole. We cannot allow this to be another goby, zebra mussel, leopard slug, emerald ash borer, japanese beetle etc. This is a large land based mammal therefore the best and cheapest approach is to allow the (likely very willing) citizens to do the work for you. As a side note, wild hogs can be baited with soured corn which may keep native species away from bait sites. Education, communication and cooperation.
