Thank you for giving me the opportunity to give my input , however, I am puzzled as to why you need public input when you have your own experts ( biologists, scientists , game & animal control specialists) and if you just Google"WILD PIG PROBLEMS"you will find a multitude of related articles from well respected sources that cover all aspects of the wild hog problems both in Canada and the USA.
There is no easy solution or quick fix in regards to controlling these animals and unfortunately this is extremely evident with what we are seeing in the USA where it is now totally out of control with billions of dollars in damage to the environment , food crops and the devastating impact wild hogs are having on native animals , ground nesting birds and plants. They also destroy fencing allowing domestic animals to escape.
Ontario has to have a zero tolerance approach , no half measures and get on top of this serious problem right now before these pigs breed to the point that all is lost.
Trap PIGs using nets dropped from small helicopters or build ground traps then satellite tag the animals to track the herds and using MNR designated response teams only, track these herds and snipers can easily shoot all of the herd EXCEPT the ones with the satellite collars. These animals will eventually meet up with another herd and the killing process repeats itself. ITS THAT EASY
Once you start shooting PIGS they do become extremely wary of humans .. they are very smart and will change tactics , lay low during daylight hours and forage more at night and then the MNR designated KILL TEAMS will then have to track the herds and use night vision scopes to continue the hunt....This method is used in the USA with great success with dozens of hogs dispatched in a night.....if Ontario doesnt act now the situation will deteriorate very fast and the public, landowners and famers should be given a toll free number to report any hog sightings immediately so that kill teams can be dispatched......spend the money now on controls to save billions later in compensation payouts to farmers.
Do not offer bounties to hunters to kill hogs... it never has been successful and as a previous landowner I have had more than one bad experience with reckless trespassing entitled hunters from the city who should never be allowed to possess a hunting license. IF THE ONT. GOVD WAS SMART ONLY GOVD EMPLOYEES SHOULD BE USED TO KILL HOGS.
THANK YOU AND GOOD LUCK...YOU'LL NEED IT.
