The current government's intention to continue further disengagement from renewable energy sources while increasing reliance on greenhouse gas emitting energy sources is not only damaging to every Ontarian, but reflects a deep lack of understanding of the issues that is simply unacceptable in a leader at this critical juncture in time. Our window to avert climate catastrophe is closing rapidly within the decade. Renewable energy sources have very recently become the cheapest sources of energy on the planet and rapidly continue to proliferate and further decrease in cost. Failing to embrace the opportunities this presents for innovation, employment and economic development now and attempting to avoid climate collapse in the very near future, is simply not an option for any legitimate government holding power today. The current pandemic which is part of the larger sustainability crisis connecting the current health crisis with the climate crisis should make it obvious that policy making must take into account evidence and science. Without that, there is no way forward through either crisis. We as Ontarians with a stake in our futures call on the government to take the only reasonable course of action and continue to develop the province's energy infrastructure increasingly towards renewable sources while phasing out nonrenewable sources as rapidly as possible.
