The word 'emergency' is very vague in the proposed changes. The changes threaten public safety and health by allowing less skilled operators to treat collect and distribute the water. This problem is what led to all the changes in the law following Walkerton and now it seems we have forgotten this lesson and are willing to return to those days. Finally, the fact that owners can possibly utilize this legislation to bring in workers during a Union strike takes away any ability members have to fight for changes in their contracts. Any power we have as a union is completely eroded by the possible implementation of this law, which in the end will lead to a race to the bottom and quite possibly another disease outbreak in the future.
