I am writing to comment on the land-use compatibility guidelines proposed by the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks. I have lived in southern Ontario all my life and am well aware of many of the issues related to aggregate extraction, trucking and pit rehabilitation. Presently, legislation in Ontario favours the aggregate industry over the interests of regular citizens, with serious land-use conflicts as a predictable result.
I strongly oppose the exemption for new or expanding aggregate operations from rules regarding Area of Influence (AOI) and Minimum Separation Distance (MSD).
There is no logical basis or justification for this aggregate industry exemption. I truly believe that, if fully informed, over 99% of Ontario residents would oppose this exemption.
