General rules cannot be made for land where aggregate mining has taken place. Each location requires its own unique, individual impartial environmental assessment.
Soil/excess soil must all be analyzed before moving/dumping.
Digging below the water table should not be allowed under any circumstances.
We, in Ontario, are mining 13 times more gravel/aggregate than we need every year. It must stop.
Especially in environmentally sensitive areas, no aggregate mining should be taking place. One critically important example is on French's Hill in the Waverely Uplands. This is the recharge zone for an aquifer which holds the purest water in all the World. We must be responsible to protect this unique and universal treasure!
