At your invitation, I am writing to comment on your proposal to extend the leases at Rondeau Park another two years.
I made my comments the last time you asked and they are still the same. Yes, extend the leases.
I have been a visitor to Rondeau Park my entire life since the 1940’s. The campers, Cottagers, and day users have co-habited agreeably all those years. The local businesses depend on the Cottagers and Campers.
The Cottagers are good stewards of the park, keeping their lots well cared for. I cannot say the same for the cottages which have been purchased by The Ministry. The cottages purchased by the Ministry are an eyesore with falling down buildings and overgrown uncared for lots. It is a sharp contrast!
The Rondeau Yacht Club provides lessons in water safety, sailing and swimming etc. for children both inside and outside the park. Without the Cottagers , this popular, educational program would not survive. I believe that this past summer, the park naturalists added to the Yacht Club program by including a nature component. All good learning experiences for children.
Many local visitors to the park provide economic gains not only for the provincial government but for the municipality.
