The cottages in Rondeau have been managed successfully for three generations by leasing the land. If a provincial park were established today, no way would the government allow 300 lucky citizens the chance to have a cottage in it - it just would not be done, for ecological reasons primarily, but also because provincial parks should not exist to contain prime real estate. The fairest thing to do here is continue to grandfather the existing cottages at Rondeau, maintaining the control that the government has on what can happen with these properties. The moment people can own their lots, expect major development and 'upgrades' to once humble and reasonable sized cottages. Expect people to add invasive plants to their gardens because it's 'their land' and they can't be asked to respect the delicate balance of the Carolinian forest around them. Allowing people to buy their properties in Rondeau would be a bad move; continuing the leases through 2024 just continues the uncertainty that has imbued this issue for the last few years.
