I do not support the proposed ammendments to the greenbelt plan. This goes directly against Fords own statements, where he previously pledged that he would not cut the green belt. The pledge was echoed by housing minister Clarke, who said proposals that will open the green belt to any sort of development would not be entertained.

Ford should be proposing to create affordable housing using land that is already developed, where viable transit options already exist. Converting greenbelt to housing will create a new need for transit options for which the infrastructure doesn't currently exist. Building up on already developed land is cheaper for municipalities, and those people can use preexisting transit options, rather than introducing 50 000 more cars to the ontario street.

The greenbelt is also home to hundreds of animal and plant species which rely on the protected areas. Many of this will die as a result of the land being developed, as they will not just move to the newly designated greenbelt areas.

Finally, allowing development on one area of the greenbelt sets a scary precedent for the future. If this development is approved, what's to say more and more will not be proposed in the future. There are other options for housing. It's not worth it to develop the greenbelt.
