Increasing the pace and affordability of development is pointless if it creates places people don't want to live. I think several points in this plan fail that test, specifically:
- removing municipality ability to dedicate land to parkland. Communities need third places (1) and this is one way to ensure they exist
- removing the ability for members of the community to submit appeals to developments. They know local conditions and what developments won't suit the area, let them speak.
Also, I saw in the proposal
- removing the conservation authority's ability to appeal. This is just complete nonsense. Why are you even considering this? They're not frivolously holding up developments, they're an important part of the process of ensuring properties are safe to inhabit. If you ignore them you're harming Ontarians.
I do like the reduction in parking space requirements.
