Proposed changes to Schedule…

Proposed changes to Schedule 9 - Planning Act - would allow the provincial government to impose sprawl development on municipalities and remove many local systems of planning making the system undemocratic for local residents.

One of the obvious and egregious goals of this proposed change is to remove the coordinated regional planning in place in the Golden Horseshoe, which prevents "patchwork" sprawl and stops the waste of construction resources and infrastructure.

In "lower tier" municipalities without planning resources, there will be pressure to expand into vital farmland and habitat or into places where these municipalities will be unable to service the new developments and its residents properly.

These proposed changes should be heavily amended or scrapped.
