I strongly believe the proposal to remove land from the Greenbelt is wrong and fundamentally flawed. I recognize that we need more housing but the focus should be on intensifying density instead of sprawling and destroying land that we can never recover.
The whole purpose of establishing the Greenbelt was to preserve farmland, wetlands and vulnerable environmental areas from development and urban sprawl. The areas that are being proposed for development within the Greenbelt are vulnerable and highly diverse, being home to numerous species.
I believe allowing this to pass will lead to further erosion of our already tenuous commitment to the environment. I suspect that it will simply pave the way for more areas of the Greenbelt to be destroyed in the future.
I would strongly encourage you to deny this proposal. We need to preserve these lands for our children to enjoy. Thank you for your time.
