Given the current global environmental crisis and Canada’s environmental goals I believe that the continued protection of the green belt is of absolute necessity. Further, should this proposal go through, it creates a precedent that would weaken other conservation efforts throughout the country. While housing affordability is a major crisis, this can be addressed in a number of ways, such as limiting the number of properties a single individual can own, limiting the number of properties listed on short term rental sites such as air b&b, and ensuring that rental units are up to code so housing can be retained long term.
